Welcome to the “Reflections” Blog
Welcome to “Reflections On A Black Sea” blog. It sarted out as a team blog for a 2008 World Wide Youth Camps summer mission team to the orphans of Crimea. It has basically become my own personal blog. I’ll be capturing thoughts and remembering stories about kids and my experiences in Crimea. I’ll also be posting news about things such as fundraising and next summer’s (2009) mission team.
In June 2008, we spent 10 incredible days in a summer camp near Alushta, Crimea with 36 of the most loveable children in all of Crimea. Amazing things happened. I hope to capture some of what happened there.
Our purpose was help introduce 36 children who live at the village orphanage near Simferopol, Crimea to our team memtors. Our Team Mentors are wonderful young adults from the Simferopol area who are committed to sharing themselves, the good news and hope of Jesus Christ , and bringing hope to at-risk children.
In 2006 I met Helen anad Eugene Strakhov in Kherson, Ukraine while working with another WWYC mission team. Helen was serving as a translator on the team. Shelives with her husband, Eugene and her daughter Julia in Simferopol. Eugene serves as minister in a local church. Together with their daughter, Julia, they work to minister to the local orphans in 2 orphange facilities.
